Youth Worker -Youth Life Skills Program

Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays 4:15 pm-7:45 pm 

SUMMARY:

  • Key responsibilities include developing, leading, and facilitating workshops, presentations, and activities that promote personal growth and well-being.
  • Act as an advocate for youth by providing resources, support, and guidance that promote self-determination, voice, and representation within the community and program activities.
  • Support youth in developing confidence and competence in solving problems and making informed decisions through mentorship, guided activities, and skill-building exercises.
  • Encourage youth participation and leadership in the planning and execution of programs to ensure they are actively involved in delivering the initiatives.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan and operate under the supervision of the Supervisor, Youth Programs
  2. Focus on delivering engaging educational workshops and interactive Life Skills programs for youth. This role involves recruiting qualified facilitators and preparing their sessions by researching and integrating relevant, developmentally appropriate content tailored to youth aged 14-24.
  3. To assist in community development and outreach and to act as a liaison and resource to community and youth groups as they seek to identify their needs and develop resources to meet these needs on an ongoing basis.
  4. Establish connections with community resources and stakeholders to enhance the Life Skills Program offerings and support youth needs effectively.
  5. To assist Youth in accessing multiple services, supports, resources and to maintain active connections with other organizations.
  6. To facilitate community involvement and encourage volunteers and parents to assist in the Life Skills program activities.
  7. To develop, support and evaluate leadership skills, training opportunities and other skill building activities for youth.
  8. Promote the Centre’s activities at large capacity.
  9. To provide regular Life Skills Program reports and evaluations, documentation for all serious encounters.
  10. Arrives for scheduled shifts on time.
  11. Performs other program related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Extensive experience working with youth from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and developmental backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, promote, and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate life skills programs that meet the unique needs of both individuals and groups. Experience in working with students, volunteers and encouraging parental input.
  • Current CPR and First Aid required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening – Police Reference Check

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary degree; or diploma in social work or related human service discipline or combination of equivalent related education and professional experience.
  • Experience in working with youth and demonstrated commitment to a community-based approach to service delivery.
  • Knowledge of related community services.
  • Creative ability and understanding of child/youth developmental factors, behavior management, program planning and group facilitation.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Current CPR and First Aid may be required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening – Police Reference Check

 

Salary Scale:  22.05/hr + 4% vacation - Wage Grade 4- Step 1

Hours: 10.5 hours per week and as per needed

This position is a unionized position with CUPE Local 2998
